5 tips for healthy, glowing skin

It is always a good time to enjoy healthy, glowing skin. As summer quickly approaches with warm breezes and seasonal fun, our skin will require a boost of tender loving care. Here are 5 tips on how to be well prepared to enjoy radiant skin this summer.

1) Stay hydrated.
During the summer months, our skin can become dehydrated and sensitive due to factors including taking showers to hot, climate change, increased consumption of sugary drinks and lack of water. Staying properly hydrated isn’t just good for the body to flush toxins but helps keep your skin looking refreshed and healthy. To quench your thirst consider purchasing a Water Infusion Bottle. This water bottle is designed to hold sliced fruits and herbs to flavor water while providing additional health benefits. Increase your consumption of fruits and salads to keep the body hydrated internally. Avoid alcohol and sugary drink consumption for these drinks dehydrate the body.
2) Give your skin balance.
Toners provide one of the essentials for healthy, clear skin. Toners help to restore the pH balance to the skin and supports collagen production. Water based toners are gentle and allow the skin to return to its natural pH balance without irritation or excessive drying. For oily skin types, having a toner is often a good choice to maintain balance in moisture.
3) Exfoliate for a healthy glow.
There is no need to use harsh skin care products to control acne, blemishes, oily and dry skin. Proper exfoliation brings a powerhouse of skin health benefits. Dead cells clog the pores and give the skin a dry, rough appearance. Since face washes serve different purposes, exfoliating once or twice week removes dead skin cells, encourage healthy skin cell production, improvement of skin tone, moisturizes and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Whenever possible, choose products with natural exfoliating grains (also called cleansing grains) such as, nuts/seeds, finely ground oatmeal, honey and botanicals. Don’t over scrub your skin. This rule applies to both cleansing and exfoliating. Over scrubbing strips natural oils from the skin, causing dryness and even bruising. To keep skin with a healthy glow, exfoliate no more than 2 times a week.
4) Watch what you eat.
While skincare products are designed to help us maintain beautiful clear skin, we must do our part internally for our body to heal and maintain itself naturally. Certain skin conditions like acne can be resolved by focusing on proper diet. Fried food are the number one culprit for triggering the skin to breakouts while excessive consumption of sugar leads to dehydrated skin. Ease up on processed foods with high salt, fat and sugar content and opt to consume vitamin-rich foods, such as romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers, kale, beet greens, and fruits like cantaloupe, blueberries, pineapple, apples, avocados and so forth.
5) Keep your skin Moisturized.
During the summer, your skin may not feel as dry but a good moisturizer promotes healthy skin and serves as sunscreen protection. Coconut oil and shea butter blend moisturizers are among the common natural moisturizers that can be used from head to sole. Coconut Oil is one of the most versatile oils that is use from cooking to hair care. This oil not only provides sunscreen protection but also helps repair sun damaged hair. Carrot seed oil is another oil providing the maximum amount of SPF coverage. Avocado oil is a lightweight oil  rich in mono-saturated fat and absorbs quickly into the skin.
Live well. Be healthy. Look fabulous!
